A music catalogue can contain exactly the right track and still fail if nobody can find it. Tuned Global’s acquisition of London-based Figaro.ai is intended to make enormous libraries more searchable, better tagged, and more useful across streaming, synchronisation, user-generated content, and distribution.
Figaro.ai applies audio intelligence to music search, classification, and content detection. Tuned Global supplies the cloud platform around it: APIs, analytics, licensing, rights management, content delivery, and customisable streaming applications. Bringing the two together turns AI from a separate experiment into a component clients can use inside an existing commercial music service.
The acquisition follows Tuned Global’s purchase of Pacemaker, known for AI-powered mixing. It reveals a consistent strategy—acquire specialist intellectual property and teams, then make their capabilities available through a broader, partner-friendly platform rather than attempting to build every innovation internally.
Music technology is unusually dependent on context. A fitness service, airline, social platform, and premium streaming app may license overlapping catalogues but need completely different discovery experiences. Figaro.ai becomes more valuable if its audio understanding can adapt to those environments without reducing every track to the same generic mood labels.
That adaptability is the commercial test.
Audio Intelligence Can Open the Long Tail
Traditional metadata describes a song through fields such as artist, genre, release date, and label. Audio analysis can add characteristics that are harder to enter consistently: mood, energy, instrumentation, texture, similarity, or the presence of particular sonic patterns. Those signals can help a listener find music for a moment and help a professional locate material for a film, advertisement, game, or social video.
Better discovery has commercial consequences. A catalogue’s value is not limited to its most popular titles; it also depends on whether less familiar recordings can reach the right audience and generate royalties. Figaro.ai’s technology could support recommendations that move beyond repeating established hits, although clients will need to test whether increased engagement is shared across creators rather than concentrated around a new algorithmic formula.
Tuned Global Is Building an Open Music Stack
Chief executive Con Raso described Tuned Global as a hub where clients can build services spanning AI, fraud detection, rights management, search, and recommendation. Figaro.ai will operate as an integrated but distinct component, complementing existing partners and preserving client choice within the larger ecosystem.
That distinction is important. An acquisition can strengthen a platform while also narrowing the space for competing suppliers. Tuned Global says it remains open, so customers should be able to understand which component performs each task, combine alternatives, and keep access to their catalogue intelligence if their technical strategy changes. Openness becomes meaningful through interoperable data, documented interfaces, and commercially realistic switching options.
The Team and Existing Customers Carry the Value
Figaro.ai founders Lydia Gregory and Kevin Webster are joining Tuned Global with their team. Existing customers will continue to receive support, now backed by Tuned Global’s global infrastructure and reach. Preserving those relationships matters because music intelligence is shaped by accumulated technical knowledge, client workflows, and feedback—not simply by transferring a model file.
The combined company serves a market in which music appears far beyond dedicated streaming apps. Tuned Global says it has supported more than 40 companies across over 70 countries in sectors including telecoms, fitness, media, and aviation. Each context asks different questions of search, licensing, and personalisation.
The deal will prove itself when listeners encounter music that feels surprisingly right, creators gain meaningful discovery, and clients launch experiences faster without losing control of rights or suppliers. The acquisition expands the available technology; careful product choices will determine whether it expands musical possibility too.
