Anthropic’s $65B Revenue Run Rate Raises the Stakes for a Record IPO

Anthropic’s annualized revenue run rate passed $65 billion at the end of July, according to reporting cited by TechCrunch. The figure was $47 billion in May and $9 billion at the end of last year, making the latest increase unusually fast even by the standards of the current AI market.

The number is striking, but its meaning requires care. An annualized run rate projects a full year from a shorter recent period; it is not the same as revenue already recorded over twelve months. Anthropic did not immediately comment, and the source notes that competing companies may calculate similar metrics differently.

A rapid run rate is not a completed year

Anthropic’s progression from $9 billion to $47 billion and then $65 billion describes an accelerating commercial pace. It suggests that demand for the model maker’s products grew sharply through the first seven months of 2026. The source does not provide quarterly accounts, customer numbers, contract duration or a split between recurring and one-off revenue, however.

That missing detail matters because run-rate calculations can respond quickly to a strong month. They can illuminate current momentum while saying less about how durable it will be. Without a disclosed methodology, it is also difficult to compare the figure precisely with a rival’s reported metric.

TechCrunch cites OpenAI at a $40 billion revenue level, double the $20 billion reported at the end of 2025. It immediately cautions that the companies may not calculate their numbers in the same way. Anthropic’s apparent lead should therefore be read as a comparison between reported indicators, not an audited league table.

Investor forecasts extend far beyond reported performance

Anthropic’s investors expect the company to maintain approximately the same growth rate through the rest of the year, according to a separate report cited by TechCrunch. Their projection places year-end 2026 annualized revenue between $100 billion and $120 billion. That is an expectation from financially interested parties, not company guidance confirmed in the source.

Reaching that range would require the current pace to persist as the base becomes much larger. The article provides no cost figures, margins or cash-flow information, so even the reported acceleration cannot establish profitability. Revenue growth and economic quality are related questions, but they are not interchangeable.

The forecast nonetheless helps explain investor excitement. Anthropic was valued at $965 billion in late May when it raised $65 billion. Both Anthropic and OpenAI have since filed confidential paperwork for initial public offerings, according to the source. Confidential filings indicate preparation; they do not guarantee timing, valuation or that either listing will proceed.

A possible record IPO puts every metric under scrutiny

Anthropic is expected to reach public markets before OpenAI and could do so as soon as this fall. It may seek a valuation of at least $2 trillion, a level that would make the debut the largest on record. These are reported expectations rather than announced terms, and market conditions could alter both schedule and price.

A public listing would bring a different standard of visibility. Investors would be able to examine formal financial statements rather than isolated run-rate milestones. They could assess how revenue is recognised, how much growth depends on a small number of customers, what it costs to serve expanding model usage and how quickly capital spending converts into returns.

The gap between Anthropic’s last private valuation and a possible $2 trillion target also raises the performance bar. A dramatic increase can be supported by dramatic growth, but public investors will still need evidence that the trajectory can survive competition and the operational costs of running advanced models. The source does not provide enough information to make that judgement.

Anthropic’s $65 billion run rate is therefore important without being conclusive. It captures an extraordinary moment of commercial acceleration and strengthens the narrative behind a potential flotation. At the same time, the $100 billion to $120 billion forecast and $2 trillion valuation remain forward-looking claims. If Anthropic reaches the public market, the most consequential change may be that those claims finally meet a fuller set of numbers.
